*Sewing machine required; classes longer than four hours will have a lunch break; please bring your lunch.

 

Accsewsories* Make your own personalized tools of the trade!  The class project will rotate, but you will make one of the following:  a block carrier book, a quilter’s tidy, a mat/ruler tote, a quilt storage roll, and pincushions.  Cost & supplies fee vary by project. See schedule for details.

 

Adinkra Appliqué Quilt* Using your own fabric design your own appliqué quilt using Adinkra symbols.  The Adinkra designs will be provided. Cost: $75   Supplies: N/A

 

Adopted Orphans* Do you have orphan blocks, but have no idea what to do with them?  Here is an opportunity to repurpose those blocks, in many creative ways.  Cost: $40   Supplies: Varies by project. See schedule for details.

 

All Mixed Up 101 A survey of mixed media techniques, providing the basics:  Lutradur, transparencies, metal, Tyvek, water soluble film, foil, fabric Paper/hand-made paper Angelina fibers, fabric paints, Shiva Paintstiks, beading and other embellishments.  Cost:  $85   Supplies: $20

 

All Mixed Up 201 -  Encrusted Encounters Learn to create a one-of-a-kind mixed- media art quilt using mixed media techniques like Lutradur, transparencies, metal, Tyvek, water soluble film, foil, fabric paper/hand-made paper, Angelina fibers, fabric paints, Shiva Paintstiks, beading and other embellishments. All Mixed Up class is a prerequisite or extensive knowledge of mixed media techniques.  Cost:  $85   Supplies: $20

 

Altered Lace Art Quilt Learn to create a base fabric using muslin, lace, cheesecloth, and hand embroidery onto which they will create an art quilt using various mixed media techniques.  Cost$85     Supplies: N/A

 

Art Quilt Playdate  We provide basic or low-cost embellishment and art quilt supplies; you bring your project to work for a three hour session. Note: This is not a class. In-depth instruction is not provided, but you will have a chance to experiment with our art quilt “toys”.  Cost: $25   Supplies: N/A

 

Batik Basic  Learn three methods of making batik cloth.  Cost: $100   Supplies: N/A

 

Beaded Appliqué Make gorgeous beaded appliqués to add to your quilts, accessories and wearables.

Burn Baby Burn   Learn to create wonderful textured fabrics by burning and distressing natural and synthetic fabrics, Tyvek, Kunin felt, Lutradur, etc. Students can then embellish these new fabrics with beads, Shiva Paintstiks, fabric paints, puff paint, embossing powders and more. Machine and hand sewing skills required. These fabrics can then be used as base fabrics for any new project. Cost:  $65   Supplies: $15

 

Creative Explorations One-on-one assistance, critique and demonstration with instructor. Instructor will provide individual guidance in teaching students about a mixed media or dyeing technique that they are interested in learning in depth.  Cost and Supplies vary by project. Delightful Devoré  Learn to make devoré (burnout) fabric.  We will design our own devoré pattern, then apply it to silk velvet.  Students can choose to make a devoré bag, scarf or shawl . Cost: $50 Supplies Varies by project ($10-30)

 

Dye Happy        Monthly open dyeing session. Basic dyeing ingredients, equipment provided; PFD available for sale, and general assistance is available. This is NOT a dyeing class. Dyeing experience or Dyeing 101 required.   Cost: $60    Supplies: N/A

 

Dyeing 101:  The Basics           Basic understanding of the dyeing process, terms, and ingredients.  Low water immersion techniques, multi hue dyeing, simple resist techniques  Cost: $125      Supplies: N/A

 

Dyeing 201:  Layered Design Cloth Advanced dyeing techniques: solids, gradations, overdyeing; salt techniques.  Dyeing 101 or basic dyeing experience required.  Cost: $125     Supplies: N/A

 

Dyeing 301: More Layered Design Cloth Resist techniques, including pattern folds, bound resists, starch and arashi shibori; basic discharge methods.  Dyeing 201 or advanced dyeing experienced required. Cost: $125    Supplies: N/A

 

Dyeing 401:  The Silk Experience  Silk dyes beautifully and easily.  We will use both dye paints and dye baths of various types to color variety of silk cloth, using resists (both folded and applied) to create unique designs. Cost: $125   Supplies: N/A

 

Fabulous Fiber Scarf*  Make a beautiful 10” x 60” scarf from the fibers of your choice.  Cost: $30   Supplies: $15

 

Fabric Collage Quilt*  Create a beautiful quilt using ethnic images. Students will learn how to make an art quilt using fabric collage techniques in combination with ethnic fabrics and images. Students will learn how to transfer images/photos onto cloth, paper, Lutradur, Tyvek, transparencies, and metal to create a collage quilt using ethnic fabrics. Instructor will also provide some images as well as discuss where to obtain images for personal use.  Cost:  $85     Supplies: $20

 

Finishing Techniques* Learn to miter corners, make continuous bias binding, lumpless finish binding, and the best way to bind your quilts by machine.  Cost: $55    Supplies: N/A

 

Fulled Bag*       Beginning with a wool sweater, we create a lovely lined handbag.  Cost: $65   Supplies: $15

 

Fulled Scarf* Use wet felted roving to make a 10 x 60 wool scarf to warm you all winter.  Cost:  $30   Supplies: $20

 

Funky Fiber Books*  This two-day class is for those who want to create their own unique fabric book using mixed media techniques. The first class will be devoted to creating book pages using mixed media: fabric paint, beads, paper, Lutradur, Tyvek, mica, transparencies, photo transfers, rubber stamps, stencils, etc. and will incorporate scrapbook collage techniques.   The second class will be devoted to putting the actual book together using water soluble film. The class is designed for all those who have basic sewing machine skills.  Cost:  $120    Supplies: $20

 

Goddess of the Sea*  Create a beautiful mermaid quilt.  This class uses felting, painting, beading, and hand embellishment techniques.  Cost:  $85    Supplies: $15

 

Indigo Inspirations  Learn a quick method for indigo on cotton for batik and shibori-type dyeing.  Cost: $75  Supplies: N/A

 

Kwanzaa Quillow*  A holiday quillow featuring quick strip piecing, stenciled Adinkra symbols and a kinara appliqué on fleece.  Cost: $ 75   Supplies: N/A

 

Making Personal Shrines   Learn to create your own personal shrine to honor a person close to you, a special date, a religious figure, etc. Students will use Peltex/Timtex, fabrics, photo transfer, beads, charms, text, and mixed-media techniques to create a meaningful, symbolic piece of art.  Cost:  $85     Supplies: N/A

 

Memory Quilts*  Learn photo transfer and photo embellishment techniques for fabric, which we will then use to make a Memory Quilt celebrating a special person or event.   Cost: $75    Supplies:$20

 

Mixed Media Madness  Monthly mixed media session, with some supplies provided, and general assistance from the instructor.  Basic knowledge of mixed media techniques, or All Mixed Up is required.  Cost:  $45      Supplies: N/A

 

Needle Felting   Learn to use a needle felting machine to create your own fabric.  Limited to four people.  Cost: $45  Supplies: $10

 

Pajama Party* Using dye and embellishments, create your own nightshirt, quilted eye mask and slippers.  Cost: $60  Supplies: $30

 

Personal Shrine*  Create a stand alone shrine to honor a person or event, or just your own creativity!  Cost:  $60; Supplies: $20

 

Queen Bee If you’d like to quilt with company, here’s your chance!  Bring your hand or machine project.  We’ll bring snacks and a non carbonated beverage.  We have mats, a couple of machines, rulers, irons, design wall, quilt blocking space and equipment, but you are welcome to bring your own preferred or specialty tools). Note: This is not a class, but an opportunity to join an quilting group.  Cost: $25 per session Supplies: NA

 

Scrappin’ Happy*  This class focuses on using up scraps of fabric so you can buy more!  You will be given cutting instructions beforehand, with the assembly/sewing instructions distributed in class.

Silk Screening  Basic silk screening techniques using Thermofax and organic, individual screens.  We will screen with inks, thickened dyes, and paints.  You will screen both t-shirts and fabric. 

Cost:  $75     Supplies: $20

 

Silk Fusion  Create your own, personalized felted silk.  This silk can then be used in a quilt, wearable or accessory, including jewelry.  Cost: $40   Supplies: $15

 

Sun Prints  Learn to make sun printed fabric and wearables  indoors.  Cost: $45   Supplies: $15

 

Tabula Rasa      Tabula rasa means ‘blank slate’ in Latin.  Our blank slate will be a yard of solid fabric…it could be white, black or another color.  What will you do with our ‘slate’?  That will be up to you!  All we can guarantee is that you will have fun creating a beautiful piece of cloth.  Cost:  $60     Supplies: N/A

 

Taino Appliqué Quilt*    Using your own fabric design your own appliqué quilt using Taino symbols.  The Taino designs will be provided.  Cost: $75    Supplies: N/A

 

The Word  Sometimes, some text is desired to enhance the message on your art quilt.  Incorporate text on your quilts using a variety of techniques, including screening, stenciling, using a silk pen, and appliqué

Time to Quilt*    Create beautiful, ‘timely’ fabric clocks with lots of options. Cost: $35   Supplies: $15

 

T-Shirt Quilt* You or your favorite teenager probably have more t-shirts than you need.  Using a foolproof method, learn how to design a quilt using t-shirts as the base fabric.  Cost: $60   Supplies: $20

 

Va-Va-Va Velvet* Velvet is a sumptuous sexy fabric. Learn techniques to enhance and embellish velvet, making a set of cosmetic bags and a velvet scarf. Cost: $65  Supplies:$20
